Chakaia Booker Thursday, April 2 7 PM Free Admission Open to the Public Join Chakaia Booker for an artist talk in conjunction with "Weighted Balance," the Bechtler’s exhibition of her sculptures and wall reliefs made from recycled tires. Galleries will be open for viewing before and after the talk, giving you a chance to explore the works up close. Booker will reflect on her journey from early works to large-scale installations and share how she transforms industrial materials into dynamic forms inspired by textiles, labor, and machinery—exploring themes of industry, sustainability, and renewal.
Smokin’ Saxophones IV Friday, April 3, 2026 6:00 PM and 8:15 PM Join acclaimed trumpeter and vocalist Joe Gransden as he pays tribute to the cool, lyrical style of jazz legend Chet Baker.
Thursday, April 9 12 PM Free Admission Join the Bechtler for an ArtBreak tour every second Thursday of the month. Visitors will experience a tour structured around a common theme featuring works of art from the permanent collection or special exhibitions on view.

Living Composers Forum Sunday, April 19 5 PM (JBT Quartet) 6 PM (Bechtler Ensemble Concert) Join us for an evening that celebrates African American musical traditions and contemporary expression. The program features a newly commissioned work by Charleston-based drummer and composer Quentin Baxter, inspired by his Gullah roots and written for percussion, violin, cello, and electric organ. Presented in partnership with the Living Composers Forum, this concert complements the exhibition David McGee: The Griot and the Nightingale, bridging music, storytelling, and cultural memory.
