Little Learners, Big Stories!

The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art partners with Smart Start of Mecklenburg County and MECK Pre-K to offer an arts and literacy enrichment program at child development centers across Charlotte. The program connects children’s books and the Bechtler collection to provide a hands-on learning experience that emphasizes North Carolina early learning arts standards. Each program includes a process-based art activity that early learners can take home and use again with their family members.

This program fills a need for high-quality arts programming in MECK Pre-K facilities and the families enrolled. Process-based art making cultivates creative and critical thinking skills in early learners. Both are crucial components to North Carolina’s Kindergarten Readiness list. Bechtler Art Stories is the museum’s first program for preschool students and will be a leading example of exceptional programming for early learners in the Charlotte arts and culture community. We serve over 500 students annually.

If you have questions or would like to bring Bechtler Preschool Art Stories to your early learners, please contact Molly Phillips, Assistant Director for Education at molly.phillips@bechtler.org.
