TOURS AT THE BECHTLER

The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art offers dynamic tours that bring modern and contemporary art to life. From K–12 school groups to private visits and ArtBreak lunchtime tours, our programs encourage curiosity, conversation, and creative connections for learners of all ages.

BRING LEARNING TO LIFE 

Register your students for engaging experiences that help your students explore and connect to modern and contemporary art. The museum offers both guided and self-guided options.

 

  • Guided tours are offered Wednesday – Friday, 10:30 – 11:45am.

  • Self-guided tours are available during museum hours.

2025-2026 TOUR OPTIONS

THINK LIKE AN ARTIST

Recommended: K – 12th Grade

Cost: $2 Per Student

Students explore the museum through thinking routines that use writing, drawing, movement and more! Time permitting, students will see all exhibitions on view and make connections throughout their visit. This option is great for general visits.

 

Supports the following standards and skills:

  • CN.1 Relate visual arts ideas and works with personal, societal, cultural, historical, and daily life contexts, including diverse and marginalized groups.

  • RE.1 Analyze visual artworks from a variety of styles, cultures and genres using content-specific vocabulary.

  • NC Portrait of a Graduate Emphasized Skills

    • Critical Thinking – students will visible thinking strategies to support and organize their own interpretations and ideas around modern and contemporary art. 

    • Learner’s Mindset – Students will use curiosity to experience new ideas displayed through modern and contemporary art. Students will be exposed to new ways and places for learning.

DESIGN AN EXHIBITION

Recommended: K – 12th Grade

Cost: $2 Per Student

This program focuses on exhibition design and museum careers. Students will work in design teams, take on different roles, and plan their own mini exhibition using small reproductions of Bechtler collection artwork.

 

Supports the following standards and skills:

  • CN.2 Explore advancements in the field of visual arts.

  • NC Portrait of a Graduate Emphasized Skills:

    • Collaboration – students will work in teams to create an exhibition

    • Communication  – students will share their exhibitions with their peers and communicate their ideas through tools and discussion.

    • Critical Thinking – students will use evidence to support their choices when creating their exhibitions.

SELF-GUIDED TOUR

Recommended: Middle and High School Students

Cost: Free

Explore the museum on your own with your students. This option is free. Gallery activity guides may be available upon request.
