About the Program
Celebrate the legacy of jazz piano icon McCoy Tyner, who rose to prominence as a member of the John Coltrane Quartet and whose powerful, modal style helped define modern jazz and influence generations of musicians. This September, the Ziad Jazz Quartet, led by saxophonist Ziad Rabie, welcomes Charlotte-based pianist Lovell Bradford back to the Bechtler stage, joined by acclaimed drummer Malcolm Charles and bassist Ron Brendle. Known for his expressive playing and collaborations with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, and Slide Hampton, Bradford brings soulful improvisation and dynamic artistry to an evening honoring one of jazz’s most groundbreaking pianists.
