Celebrate the closing week of David McGee: The Griot and the Nightingale, on view through Sunday, August 23, with a special screening of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Presented in partnership with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation and Independent Picture House, the film was selected by artist David McGee for its connection to themes explored in his exhibition at the Bechtler. Guests will have the opportunity to see the exhibition before the screening.

About the Film
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is based on the remarkable true story of Jean-Dominique Bauby, editor-in-chief of ELLE France, who suffers a devastating stroke and is left with locked-in syndrome. Though almost completely paralyzed, he learns to communicate by blinking one eye and, through memory and imagination, discovers a life without boundaries.
