About the Program
This October, experience the vibrant sounds of contemporary Peruvian composers in a concert inspired by the museum’s fall exhibition, Clare Rojas: Past the Present. This performance will feature the haunting works of Gabriela Lena Frank, Daniel Cueto, and the premiere of a new piece by Cesar Peredo.
Peredo’s composition, commissioned by Tanja Bechtler, showcases the energetic Afro-Peruvian coastal style. Driven by a dynamic rhythm and accompanied by percussion, this piece offers a fresh and powerful addition to the string quartet repertoire.
The other featured composers, like Peredo, draw on traditional Peruvian folk melodies, weaving them into contemporary classical compositions. These evocative soundscapes resonate with the focus on storytelling in the Clare Rojas exhibition, which blends narrative, magical realism, and abstraction in visually rich artworks. The concert and exhibition together offer a compelling exploration of tradition and innovation through both sight and sound.
TICKETS: Concert tickets are $25 for members, $30 for nonmembers, and $5 for students (with proof of ID). FREE tickets for ages 10 and under. Advance registration is required to guarantee seating.
