About the Program
Join us for an exclusive members’ evening at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art to celebrate the opening of David McGee: The Griot and the Nightingale. The evening begins with a 6 PM artist talk featuring McGee in conversation with Bechtler curator Dr. Katia Zavistovski and exhibition catalogue contributor Dr. Anita N. Bateman, VP of Creative Direction at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture—a special opportunity that is open to the public.
After the talk, members are invited to an exclusive reception with early access to the exhibition, including a catalogue signing with the artist. Spanning over three decades and more than 100 works, this major survey explores language, identity, and social narratives through McGee’s multifaceted practice.
