About the Program
Donors of the Bechtler are invited to an exclusive opening celebration of David McGee: The Griot and the Nightingale, the artist’s first major museum survey. This exclusive 5 PM preview is reserved for our Firebird Circle, Curator’s Circle, Director’s Circle, and Patron’s Circle supporters in recognition of their leadership and generosity.
5 PM | Donor-Exclusive Preview
Begin the evening with a private introduction to the exhibition led by artist David McGee and Bechtler curator Dr. Katia Zavistovski.
6 PM | Artist Talk
David McGee in conversation with Dr. Katia Zavistovski and Dr. Anita N. Bateman, VP of Creative Direction at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.
Reception to Follow
Continue the celebration with a reception in the galleries, including full access to the exhibition and a catalogue signing with the artist.
