About the Program
This year’s season finale is inspired by an artwork from Tanja Bechtler’s private collection titled The Defender of Nature against the Madness and Insanity of Nature. This sculpture of a fiery red dragon was conceived by Master HORA®, Atayan A.V. in 2017 and produced by Elena Supanova. In a nod to Atayan’s Armenian heritage, the concert's repertoire will feature selections that celebrate Armenian culture, including works by early 20th-century Armenian composer and musicologist Komitas for string quartets and excerpts of his poetry, adding a poignant touch to the performance.
Under the direction of Tanja Bechtler, the Bechtler Ensemble is set to showcase the compositions of female composers from various corners of the world. Among them are Armine Ghuloyan from Armenia, crafting pieces for string quartets, and Niloufar Nourbakhsh from Iran, focusing on solo cello compositions. Additionally, Setsuko Hata from Japan will contribute a uniquely jazz-oriented piece, tailored for electric keyboard and string quartet. These works, characterized by a blend of jazz influences and pop sensibilities, promise an evening of diverse musical exploration.
