Samuel Barber's Sonata for Piano and Cello
LOCATION: MUSEUM LOBBY
FEBRUARY 14 AT 5 P.M.
The Bechtler launches its Music and Museum series on Valentine’s Day with a free performance of Samuel Barber’s Sonata for Piano and Cello, featuring musicians Tanja Bechtler and Paul Nitsch. During this new series, the depth of the musical pieces will be matched by a visual counterpart from the Bechtler art collection. In this instance, Barber’s Sonata for Piano and Cello will be paired with a work of art by Alexander Calder.
In addition to Barber, works by Schuman and Schubert will be performed. And in addition to the Calder work, another piece from the museum’s collection will be featured. Reminiscent of how Tanja Bechtler’s grandmother displayed the piece in her home, a work by Gunter Haese will sit atop the piano during the performance.
Join the musicians for an informal pre-concert reception at 5 p.m. The performance begins at 5:30 p.m.
Registration for this free performance is required by February 10, 2010. Call 704.353.9200 to register. Space is limited.
