In celebration of the new exhibition Annemarie Schwarzenbach: Departure without Destination, the Bechtler Ensemble will perform arrangements by a diverse collection of composers inspired by the many places that Annemarie Schwarzenbach lived and traveled to in her lifetime. Works by Paul Juon (Switzerland/Russia), Steve Reich (US), Justinian Tamusuza (Uganda), and Hugo Wolf (Austria/Slovenia) will invite the audience to imagine a round-the-world journey similar to that captured by Schwarzenbach in her writings and photographs.

PROGRAM

1. Paul Juon (Swiss, born in Russia, 1872 – 1940) | String Quartet No. 1, Op. 5
2. Steve Reich (American, 1936 - present) | Triple Quartet
3. Justinian Tamusuza (Ugandan, 1951 - present) | Ekitundu ekisooka (First Movement)
4. Hugo Wolf (Austrian, born in Slovenia, 1860 - 1903) | String Quartet in D minor
