The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art presents its holiday-themed Music and Museum First Tuesday concerts on December 4. Members of the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra will perform Christmas in Venice.
The North Carolina Baroque Orchestra provides audiences who may be new to baroque music, an opportunity to hear this music performed on period instruments in a vigorous and exciting way, in an intimate and casual setting.
The Christmas in Venice repertoire consists of Concerto Grosso in G minor, Op.6, No. 8 (Christmas Concerto) by Arcangelo Corelli, Concerto No. 4 in F Minor, RV 297, Op. 8, No. 4 L'inverno (Winter from The Four Seasons) by Antonio Vivaldi and Sonata No.9 in D Major by Johann Rosenmüller.
Commentary during the concert will connect the musical compositions to Bechtler collection artists Barbara Hepworth, Alberto Giacometti, Jean-Paul Riopelle and Alfred Manessier who each received coveted awards at the Venice Biennale, the renowned art exhibition that has taken place every two years in Venice, Italy since 1895.
