Modern Mondays
LOCATION: FOURTH-FLOOR GALLERY
MARCH 11
In his talk, Weaving a Path Through My Influences, contemporary artist Jonathan Brilliant will discuss the artistic roads he has taken and what artists inspired him along the way, including artists in the Bechtler collection, around whom Brilliant will focus his discussion.
Brilliant creates site-specific sculpture installations. Central to his work is an interest in patterning and mark-making fused with the use of pre- and post-consumer manufactured materials and the use of rhythm and repetition to create installations, objects and works on paper. Most recently, he's been using materials found in coffee shops such as stir sticks, straws, cup sleeves and coffee grounds to build pieces.
Brilliant has a B.A. in studio art from the College of Charleston and an M.F.A. in spatial art from San Jose State University. He has exhibited his work in several group and solo exhibitions nationally and internationally and has received numerous fellowships to artist residencies at institutions including McColl Center for Visual Art, Ox-Bow School of Art, Vermont Studio Center, Penland School of Crafts and the Redux Contemporary Art Center.
