Start the week with a boost of culture. Modern Mondays programs provide an opportunity to interact with museum professionals, scholars and others who present a deeper understanding of works in the collection and on exhibition in the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.
Using the Bechtler collection as the foundation, museum President and CEO John Boyer will present the two-night Modern Mondays program, Modernism 101, on January 28 and 29 in the fourth-floor gallery.
Boyer will discuss the basics of modernism by examining major figures, movements and breakthroughs made by artists during the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. “In two nights we’re going to careen through 150 years worth of artists, ideas and objects that ended up defining our 20th-century notions of what it meant to be modern," Boyer explains. "We will do our best to set those ideas in the larger context of the transformations that occurred in science, politics and pop culture.”
Before his museum career, Boyer taught the history of modern art and architecture at Connecticut's Trinity College. Don't miss this special opportunity to receive a crash course in modernism.
