Modern Mondays

Start the week with a boost of culture in a social setting. Modern Mondays programs provide an opportunity to interact with museum professionals, scholars and others who present a deeper understanding of works on exhibition in the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.
Visit the museum September 10 for a Modern Mondays program complementing the exhibition Giacometti: Memory and Presence. Dr. Bradford Collins, University of South Carolina Associate Professor of Art History, will lead a discussion and lecture on Giacometti's Surrealist and existentialist works.
Tickets
Modern Mondays programs offer a cash bar at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are free for museum members and $8 for non-members. Tickets may be purchased online, by phone 704.353.9200 or at the visitor services desk.
Upcoming Modern Mondays programs
SOLD OUT/October 8 and 15: Bechtler teaching artist Ginny Boyd leads a two-day, hands-on workshop based on Giacometti's methods and influences. Participants will tour the exhibition Giacometti: Memory and Presence and create artworks from bendable wire. Note: This event is sold out.
November 19: Davidson College Associate Professor Dr. Ann Fox leads a combination lecture and discussion on the connections between existentialist art and theater.
December 3: Bechtler teaching artist Amy St. Aubin leads a hands-on workshop based on Giacometti's monochromatic oil paintings. Participants will create self-portraits using conté crayons. The workshop is designed for adults of all skill levels.
