Modern Mondays
LOCATION: CLASSROOM
JUNE 13
Don’t let Mondays get you down. Stop in for a cultural fix at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. We’re open on Mondays when some of Charlotte's other visual art institutions are not.
A new Bechtler program series -- Modern Mondays -- starts the week off with enlightening art talks. Modern Mondays programs feature local and regional scholars, artists and professionals leading interactive discussions about works in the Bechtler collection and exhibitions. Not a typical lecture, Modern Mondays discussions are open for opinion and debate.
Visit the museum June 13 for the Modern Monday Artist's Cafe. Shaw Smith, Professor of Art History and Humanities at Davidson College, will lead a discussion of Woman Drying Herself After a Bath, a pastel and charcoal by Edgar Degas. For this event, lunch may be purchased in the Bechtler cafe (download menu) starting at 11:30 a.m. and eaten in the classroom (second floor) where the presentation begins at noon. After the classroom presentation, participants will visit the fourth-floor gallery to view the artwork discussed.
Modern Monday programs are free with museum admission. Purchase tickets online, by phone 704.353.9200 or at the visitor services desk. Space is limited.
Upcoming Modern Monday programs:
June 20 at noon – Artist's Café (lunch and a discussion about a kinetic sculpture by Jean Tinguely led by June Lambla, curator and director of Lambla artWORKS).
June 27 at 5:30 – Cocktails & Conversation (drinks and a discussion about Niki de Saint Phalle's Bride sculpture led by Ann Fox, Associate Professor of English and Coordinator for the Gender Studies Concentration at Davidson College).
