Jazz at the Bechtler: Tribute to Miles Davis

LOCATION: BECHTLER MUSEUM OF MODERN ART

FRIDAY, MAY 6 AT 6 OR 8:15 PM

On Friday, May 6, the Ziad Jazz Quartet, including Ziad Rabie, saxophone; Lynn Grissett, trumpet; and Kobie Watkins, drums, will pay tribute to Miles Davis. Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991) was an American trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music. Davis adopted a variety of musical directions in a five-decade career that kept him at the forefront of many major stylistic developments in jazz.

Get to know Kobie Watkins and Lynn Grissett

Drummer Kobie Watkins has toured or recorded with Sonny Rollins, Kurt Elling, Curtis Fuller, Arturo Sandoval, George Coleman, Ira Sullivan, and Sonny Fortune.

In 2011 Lynn Grissett was voted Best Jazz Soloist at the 50th Anniversary of the Villanova Jazz Festival. Lynn’s Master’s Degree in Music Performance (Jazz Studies) was obtained in 2012. Though his genre of preference and first love is jazz, Lynn studies, writes and performs all genres of music. In addition to the trumpet, Lynn proficiently plays saxophone. His dedication to his craft, has propelled him into the company of many reputable professional musicians and recording artists. Some of these artists include: Ellis Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Max Wienberg, the late Dewey Redman, Winard Harper, and Andy Allo.  Most recently, Lynn has the distinct privilege of being a member of New Power Generation Hornz; the horn section of the band New Power Generation (NPG) led by Prince.
