GUEST LECTURE: HOSS HALEY

North Carolina artist Hoss Haley will speak at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art Wednesday, August 23 as part of the Guest Lecture series.

Originally from Asheville, Hoss Haley learned machine fabrication as a youth while apprenticing as a blacksmith in Texas and New Mexico. His upbringing around industrialized steel and the bold, yet barren landscapes of the American west became a heavy influence on Haley's later works.

At the Bechtler, Haley plans to speak about the history of mechanical movement within the world of fine art. He will also talk about the significant roll machines have played in his work over the past four decades. Read more or RSVP.

You can see Haley's "Drawing Machine", as well as several other pieces of his work, on view now in the fourth floor gallery as part of Celebrating Tinguely and Santana.
