Film Screening
LOCATION: VIDEO GALLERY
APRIL 15
The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art seeks to connect the community to the Bechtler collection in various ways. Films about artists and their work enhance the museum experience and illuminate exhibition viewing. Complementing the current exhibition Niki de Saint Phalle: Creation of a New Mythology, the Bechtler will screen Monster in the Forest: The Story of the Cyclop (57 minutes) on April 15 at 6 p.m. in the museum's video gallery. The screening is free with museum admission. Cash bar in the lobby.
The film (an art-house selection with adult themes) documents the collaborative efforts of married artists Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle (whose work is represented in the Bechtler collection) in the creation of the Cyclop, a monumental sculpture in France. Constructed in a park on the outskirts of Paris and comprised of winding metal stairways, working fountains, and narrow footbridges, the Cyclop houses a variety of noisy gears and compelling gadgets. The artwork was 20 years in the making.
