Family Day
LOCATION: MUSEUM AND THE GREEN
TODAY, MAY 7
Feed your child's inner artist while learning about the Bechtler’s exhibitions and architecture at Family Day May 7. Art-based activities take place from noon to 4:30 p.m. in the galleries and classroom as well as on the museum plaza and across the street in The Green.
School-age children (and parents, too) are invited to compose, create and construct at three stations set up on The Green. In addition to making art, kids can also view art and participate in a scavenger hunt involving the five large-scale sculptures installed in the park as part of the Bechtler’s current exhibition Niki de Saint Phalle: Creation of a New Mythology on view through October 3, 2011. From 4 to 4:30 p.m., a trumpeter will perform at de Saint Phalle’s outdoor sculpture of Miles Davis.
On the museum plaza, kids can sketch the Firebird sculpture and build the Bechtler using Styrofoam blocks. Inside activities include digital art instruction, story time and special kid-friendly gallery tours.
Family Day admission is free for kids under 18 years old; adults receive a discounted ticket price of $4. All Family Day activities are free.
During Family Day, shoppers receive a 10% discount on all children's merchandise in the museum store.
Family Day is sponsored in part by The Container Store.
