Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ Parent University, along with the Arts & Science Council, presents a day of artistic fun and information on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families are encouraged to visit the arts and science venues along uptown Charlotte's “Cultural Mile” on Tryon Street from the Harvey B. Gantt Center in Levine Center for the Arts to McColl Center for Visual Art. All cultural venues will provide free or discounted admission April 9.

Families are invited to become educated consumers of Charlotte’s thriving arts and cultural community and participate in opportunities such as:

-- Mini-workshops for parents and students

-- Hands-on arts and cultural experiences

-- Student performances

-- Information sharing for parents on strategies for using arts and cultural resources as tools to extend learning

Registration for the event is required.

Addmission to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art during Spring Family Fun and Education Day is free for kids under 18 years old. Adults receive a discounted admission of $4. All children's items in the museum store are discounted 10%.

During Spring Family Fun and Education Day, the Bechtler will offer participants:

-- Classroom sessions on talking to children about art. Limited to 20 adults per session. Offered at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

-- 30-minute, docent-led gallery tours. Limited to 20 people per tour. All tours meet on the first floor of the museum. Offered at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

-- A scavenger hunt on The Green (across the street from the museum). Handouts will be available for museum visitors at the front desk.
