Architecture + Film

Architecture + Film

LOCATION: LOBBY AND AUDITORIUM

JANUARY 20

Developed in conjunction with the Charlotte chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art’s new Architecture + Film series investigates themes in modern and contemporary architecture through the lens of film.

On January 20, the museum departs from its documentary offerings with a screening of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. In this 1948 comedy classic, advertising executive Jim Blandings (Cary Grant) and his wife Muriel (Myrna Loy) get more than they bargained for while building a country house. As the couple navigates construction issues and fights legal squabbles, the house that was supposed to bring them some peace from big-city life does anything but.

A short presentation led by John Boyer, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art President and CEO, will precede the screening.

Running time: 94 minutes

The event reception begins at 6 p.m., the discussion and film screening at 7 p.m. Please enter through the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.
